Leeds Library & Information Service have been awarded £1.4 million from the BIG Lottery Fund to develop an exciting new Library & One Stop Centre for Garforth. The current Library building will be extended and redesigned, allowing for the Library and One Stop Centre to be housed under one roof.
The new building will feature green technology such as solar panels to heat water, and a “living” sedum roof that will be energy efficient and encourage wildlife.
The building will feature a lift, a ramp, downstairs meeting room and downstairs toilets for improved accessibility.
Facilities for young people will be improved, and a new learning suite will provide better IT facilities for the whole community and enable us to deliver new learning sessions. The new extension will feature a comfortable area, in which customers will be able to relax and enjoy a coffee.
Construction will start in January 2009 and should be completed within the year. The new building will open in early 2010.
